Brooklyn man busted in $1.3 million Maryland armored car robbery

A Brooklyn man is one of the bandits behind a brazen January armored car heist in Maryland that netted $1.3 million, according to new court documents filed Wednesday.

FBI agents arrested Michael (Turtle) Watts last week at his girlfriend's Queens residence, authorities said.

Watts, 42, was allegedly one part of a gun-toting trio that robbed a Loomis armored car driver outside a State Employees Credit Union branch in Salisbury, Md.

Two other men, 48-year-old Orneth Patrick South of Charlotte, N.C., and 38-year-old Ryan Shevin Smith of Princess Anne, Md., were also charged in the heist, documents say.

When South was arrested, he said his friend of 20 years, "Turtle," from Brooklyn helped with the robbery. That led investigators to Watts.

After Watts' May 17 arrest, he admitted to a role in the Jan. 22 armored car robbery, court papers say.

If convicted, the men could get up to 20 years for the robbery and a life sentence for brandishing firearms during the violent crime.
