Jailed rapper Soulja Boy fell victim to hackers on Monday, April 15 when they took over his Instagram account.

The "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" star, real name DeAndre Cortez Way, was taken into custody on Thursday, April 11 for violating his probation, and cyber criminals decided to take advantage of his situation by taking control of his social media page.

According to XXLmag.com, multiple people began livestreaming from Soulja Boy's account on Monday night, with one man and woman demanding at least $1,000 (£770) from the MC's representatives to hand over possession of the profile.

"Y'all gotta give us a band ($1,000) to get his s**t back," the female declared on camera.

Soulja Boy fell victim to hackers.

The Instagram Live video has since been removed from the rapper's page, suggesting his management team has managed to regain control.

However, Soulja Boy is unlikely to be able to use social media for a while as he is currently being held without bail until a hearing on 30 April.

A judge recently declared he had violated his probation relating to a 2014 weapons arrest after ammunition was found during a police search of his California home in March, following claims that he had kidnapped a woman. He was arrested at the time and subsequently released.
