Footage posted online by @vaaLerriee showed the Prius speeding past her vehicle, followed by a number of police cars.

The vehicle can be seen weaving in and out of traffic in an attempt to evade capture.

The shooter wildly swings his gun around outside his vehicle on the busy road.

At one point the driver is forced to slow down due to traffic and appears to try and squeeze through lanes before making a turn and speeding off again.

The passenger can be seen clearly holding the gun inside the car throughout the incident.

The car is eventually brought to a stop by traffic as police cars line up behind them and riddle it with bullets before a woman emerges from the driver's seat.

It finally came to a halt in the Los Angeles suburb of Downey, where the woman driver, who had blood on her shirt, surrendered.

However, the passenger remained in the car.

It was not immediately clear whether he was hit by gunfire but after 45 minutes two armored SWAT vehicles pulled up alongside the vehicle and pulled him from the car and he is now in custody.

There was no immediate report on how the chase began.

Police say the passenger is wanted in connection to a shooting death of a convenience store worker earlier this week, NBC reports.

Gurpreet Singh, 44, was killed on Tuesday at ASL Liquor and Market. He was working alone at the time of his death.

Security footage from incident, which resulted in Singh's death, showed two men running in the opposite direction from the market.
