CHICAGO — A police officer was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and making false statements to investigators related to an October shooting in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood, authorities said Wednesday.

Officer Joseph Cabrera was off-duty on Oct. 13 when he allegedly fired shots in the direction of at least one person following an argument in the 5200 block of Monitor Street. Cabrera, an eight-year police department veteran who serves as a field training officer, was arrested around 6 a.m. Tuesday and is expected to appear before a bond court judge Wednesday, police said.

Cabrera "relieved of his police powers and could face additional disciplinary actions pending the outcome of the criminal and administrative investigations," Chicago police said in a statement.

Barring a court order, video of the shooting incident is set to be released by COPA on Friday, according to a statement issued by the independent police misconduct investigative agency
